Testimonial from Kathy Pyle
On August 11th 2007, Kathy gave the following five minute testimony at a women's camp on how we brought up our family in the perilous times in which we live.
Perilous Times
Years ago, Colin and I felt we were bringing up our family in perilous times.
II Timothy 3:1 says, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: v2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, v3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self control, brutal, despisers of good, v4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying it's power."
We decided that because we were in perilous times, we needed to make Jesus the centre of our family life.
Isaiah 33:6 (NIV) says, "He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge, the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure."
Isn't that an awesome verse! Jesus is our sure foundation for these perilous times; a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. For those of us who are parents, don't we often desire wisdom to raise our family? For those of us who are young people, don't we need this salvation, this wisdom and this knowledge? This verse says that Jesus is the rich store of the salvation, wisdom and knowledge that we all need in these times.
But how do we make Jesus that sure foundation? How does He become a rich store of wisdom for us? And how can we learn to fear the Lord, because this is the key to this treasure?
I believe God gave Colin and me two keys to make Jesus the sure foundation for our family. And these keys are:
The keys
- We get each of our children to have a Quiet Time each day where they write down what God is saying to them. Colin and I also do this.
- We all share what God has said to us and then pray together as a family.
This not only helps give our children a love for God, but it has given us a platform whereby as a family we can keep the channels of communication open between us. We have great discussions together over breakfast. Our eldest son, Joseph, says that without this personal walk with God and our input into his life, he probably wouldn't be a Christian today.
We have set up an internet site called walkingwithgod.com to help people everywhere get this going in their families.
We use special folders and sheets to record the things God tells us each day.
As a family we have found that doing this each day has made Jesus the sure foundation for our times. As we seek to do the things that He has told us to do, He is developing that fear of God in us. This is the key to this rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge.
